Port Matilda Baptist Church is a small country church located in the beautiful valley of Bald Eagle. We were founded in 1886, and have been committed to the glorification of Jesus Christ in every way we can ever since. Through community, outreach, Biblical teaching, and the love of Christ, we seek bring glory to God in all things.

Ben Hoover
Senior Pastor
Pastor Ben has been in full-time ministry for over eighteen years. Before that, he worked as a physical therapist assistant in multiple healthcare settings. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Bible from Lancaster Bible College and his Master’s degree in Ministry from Baptist Bible Seminary. He has been married to Marsha for twenty-nine years. Ben and Marsha have two married sons and three grandsons. Ben enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors on a mountain bike. You can contact him at pastorben123@gmail.com.
Noah Hoover
Youth Pastor
Pastor Noah grew up in Duncansville, Pennsylvania. He attended Clarks Summit University for his Bachelor's Degree in Pastoral Ministry and is currently pursuing an M.Min through Grace Theological Seminary. Noah primarily focuses on Student Ministries, Worship Ministries, and Young Adult Ministries at PMBC. He has a wife named Ashley, Two sons named Ezra and Eli, and a dog named Bodi. Ashton Schultz
Administrative Assistant/Children’s Ministry Director
Ashton is a former elementary school teacher and principal. She has a dual Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education, as well as a Master’s degree in Special Education from Northern Arizona University. She also holds a Pennsylvania Principal’s Certificate from Gannon University. Ashton and her husband, Andrew, have three children and are active members of Port Matilda Baptist Church. Elders
Steve Beckwith
Steve and his wife, Betsy, live on a farm in Port Matilda and have attended PMBC for over two decades. Steve serves on the building committee and also lends a hand as a backup Sunday school teacher when needed.
Tom Neff
Tom and his wife, Mary, reside in Port Matilda. They have faithfully attended PMBC for over 22 years. Tom helps with visiting church members, communion, occasional maintenance projects, and teaching Sunday school. He and his wife, Mary, are a vital part of the monthly Common Food Distribution ministry.
Josh Nolten
Josh lives in Port Matilda with his wife, Diana. They are proud parents of four daughters. Josh stays busy running a local business in the Tyrone area and is actively involved in his church community, where he teaches Sunday school each week. He and his class are currently studying the book of John.
Rich Reese
Rich Reese has attended PMBC his entire life. He and his wife, Libby, live in Port Matilda, where Rich serves faithfully on the safety committee, Treehouse Ministry, and Bread Ministry each week.
Deacons
Bryan Campbell
Bryan and JoEllen reside in Port Matilda. Bryan leads the church facilities and grounds team, overseeing lawn care, building upkeep, and winter maintenance, in addition to serving on the safety team.
Larry Bailey
Larry and Darlene have been married since 1982. They have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. They live in Warriors Mark. Both became members of PMBC in 2024. Larry currently helps with Common Food and is anxious to serve in other areas as needed.
Nate Potter
Nate and Nikki live in Port Matilda. Nate serves on the technology team, assisting with the sound system, cameras, and livestream, while also contributing to the maintenance of the church property. Nate also serves in the NextGen Youth ministry.
Myron Rice
Myron and Jodi were married in 1995 and live in Julian, PA. They have been attending PMBC since 2023. Myron loves to serve and help. He enjoys helping with small projects on the church property, the Common Food ministry, and Jr. Church.
Drew Shultz
Drew and Ashton live in Tyrone. Drew is engaged in various ministries weekly, including technology, Treehouse, Nextgen Youth, Firm Footing Bible Study, and participates in various small group Bible studies available at PMBC. Drew loves spending time with his family and working on projects.
Brian Walk
Brian and Karen have lived in Port Matilda for most of their lives. Brian is a retired security guard at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Active at PMBC for 55 years, Brian contributes as a pianist, safety team member, and custodian, often lending his skills as a handyman around the church. Brian loves refurbishing new vehicles and furniture. His favorite verse is Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Deaconesses
Faye Gray
Faye, a native of Port Matilda, has attended PMBC for about 66 years. She runs a Tuesday morning ladies’ Bible study at PMBC, serves on the building committee, assists with Bible School, and provides meals when needed. She previously taught Sunday School for almost 40 years, served as the church treasurer, worked with youth, and participated in various committees. Her favorite verse is Joshua 24:15: “...But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Marilyn Warrender
Marilyn began attending PMBC as a young child, accompanied by her older siblings. In 1965, Marilyn and her husband, Butch, moved to Tyrone, where they enjoyed Grace Baptist Church for a decade. They returned to Port Matilda in 1976 and have been active participants at PMBC ever since. She assists her sister, Faye, in running PMBC’s Tuesday morning ladies’ Bible study, stepping in as needed. She also dedicates her time to making and delivering meals to members in need and ensuring the church kitchen remains clean. While she has passed on many of her previous responsibilities to younger generations, her commitment to her church and community remains strong. Marilyn’s favorite verse is Isaiah 26:3: “He will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.”
JoEllen Campbell
JoEllen and her husband, Bryan, are active members of PMBC, which they have been attending for over 10 years. They live in Port Matilda and are committed to serving their community. JoEllen is a deaconess and faithfully contributes to the nursery ministry, helping nurture and support our youngest members.
Linda Confer
Linda is a dedicated community member from Port Matilda. She has been attending PMBC for over 40 years and assists with setting up communion, organizing funeral dinners, and preparing meals for those in need. She also handles ordering flowers for funerals and collaborates with Marilyn to provide thoughtful gifts for weddings, new babies, and individuals in the hospital.
Elizabeth “Libby” Reese
Libby and her husband, Rich, are from the Port Matilda area. Libby is a dedicated deaconess and passionate educator. Serving as a Sunday School teacher for preschool, Libby is deeply committed to nurturing the minds and hearts of her young students. In addition to her teaching role, she actively engages with her community through various ministries, including helping with the Tuesday night Treehouse program, leading Bible school, and participating in the Thursday night bread ministry. Libby also attends women’s Bible studies.
Jeannie Snowberger
Jeannie is from the Roaring Spring area. She serves in the nursery and is also a talented pianist, sharing her musical gifts during services. Jeannie is passionate about maintaining a welcoming environment. As the former lead of the cleaning ministry, she has helped develop processes for creating a safe and inviting atmosphere.
